Mitigating Social Segregation Driven by Distorted Perception of Beliefs
Researchers have found that people are more disturbed by others holding false beliefs than by those with merely different beliefs, leading to social segregation and avoidance behaviors. This phenomenon is significant, observed across four pre-registered online studies with 2,027 U.S. adults. It highlights a social issue where people's interactions and tolerance are negatively impacted by their perception of others' beliefs. Addressing this could help in reducing social segregation.
