Mitigating Phishing Risks with End-to-End Encrypted Emails

The implementation of end-to-end encryption in Gmail may inadvertently make it harder to detect phishing emails and avoid malicious links. When recipients are not Gmail users, they are sent an invitation to view the encrypted email in a restricted version of Gmail, which could lead to users becoming accustomed to clicking links to view messages. This new workflow may increase the risk of successful phishing attacks.
