Reconciling Nyquist Contour Direction and System Pole-Zero Analysis

The analysis of Nyquist contours in control systems theory leads to a seeming paradox. A clockwise contour around the right half-plane and a counterclockwise contour around the left half-plane appear to yield the same Nyquist plot.
