Develop Mushroom Disease Management for Healthy Production

The challenge is developing integrated disease management approaches that can prevent and control mushroom diseases without compromising food safety or production economics. Current disease management often relies on chemical treatments that may not be appropriate for food production, while biological control options remain underdeveloped for mushroom applications. Technical barriers include developing effective biological control methods for mushroom diseases, creating sanitation protocols that prevent contamination without disrupting production, and establishing early warning systems for disease outbreaks. Success would reduce disease-related production losses, improve food safety, lower disease management costs, and provide disease control approaches applicable to other controlled environment food production systems.
