Create Vertical Farming Revolution
Develop agricultural engineering systems that enable unlimited food production in vertical growing systems that can operate in any environment including urban areas and space. Vertical farming would stack growing systems to achieve enormous production per unit of land area while providing perfect control over growing conditions. The challenge involves developing lighting systems that can replace sunlight efficiently, creating automated systems for vertical farm management, and designing vertical growing systems that are economically competitive with traditional agriculture. Applications include urban farms that produce food locally to eliminate transportation, vertical farms in harsh climates where traditional agriculture is impossible, and space agriculture systems for space colonization. Success would enable food production anywhere regardless of climate or land availability, eliminate agricultural land use conflicts, and provide fresh food locally in all communities.
