Achieve Collective Robot Intelligence
Develop robot swarms that exhibit collective intelligence greater than the sum of individual robot capabilities. Collective robot intelligence would enable robot swarms to solve complex problems, make sophisticated decisions, and exhibit emergent behaviors that transcend individual robot limitations. Current robot swarms can coordinate simple behaviors but cannot achieve true collective intelligence. The challenge involves developing communication protocols for robot swarms, creating algorithms that enable collective problem-solving, and designing swarm behaviors that produce intelligent collective outcomes. Applications include robot swarms for disaster response that collectively plan and execute rescue operations, construction robot swarms that design and build structures collaboratively, and exploration robot swarms that collectively explore and map unknown environments. Success would create robot systems with superhuman collective intelligence, enable robot swarms to tackle problems impossible for individual robots, and provide new models for distributed artificial intelligence.
