Develop argumentation systems that can identify and neutralize all forms of manipulative persuasion while preserving legitimate persuasive communication. Perfect persuasion defense would detect propaganda, manipulation, coercion, and other forms of illegitimate persuasion while allowing honest persuasive argument and genuine influence. Current approaches to persuasion analysis cannot reliably distinguish between legitimate and manipulative persuasion or provide effective defense against sophisticated manipulation. The challenge involves understanding the difference between legitimate and manipulative persuasion, developing detection systems that can identify manipulation reliably, and creating defense mechanisms that protect against manipulation without blocking legitimate communication. Success would eliminate manipulative persuasion as a tool for exploitation and control, enable protection against propaganda and manipulation, and preserve space for honest persuasive communication and influence.
