Create Biochemical Machines
Design molecular machines made from biological components that can perform mechanical work at the molecular scale. Biochemical machines would use proteins, DNA, and other biomolecules to create nanoscale machines that can move, build, and repair other molecules. Current molecular machines exist in biology, but engineering custom biochemical machines could enable unprecedented control over molecular processes. This challenge involves protein engineering, molecular motors, nanotechnology, and biological mechanics. Success would enable molecular-scale manufacturing, repair systems that work inside living cells, and biological machines that can build complex structures atom by atom.
