Develop AI with Embodied Cognition

Create AI systems whose intelligence is fundamentally shaped by embodied interaction with the physical world, similar to how human cognition emerges from our embodied experience. Current AI systems are largely disembodied, processing abstract symbols without the grounding that comes from physical interaction with the environment. This challenge involves developing AI that learns through sensorimotor experience, develops understanding through physical manipulation, and grounds abstract concepts in bodily experience. Such embodied AI would develop more human-like understanding and reasoning capabilities rooted in physical experience of the world. Success would bridge the gap between artificial and biological intelligence by recognizing the fundamental role of embodiment in cognition.
