Create Self-Assembling Robots
Develop robotic systems that can autonomously assemble themselves from component parts, similar to how biological systems self-organize and grow. Self-assembling robots would start as collections of individual modules that can find each other, connect in appropriate configurations, and coordinate to form functional robotic systems. Applications include space construction, disaster response, and situations where pre-assembled robots cannot be deployed. The challenge involves developing self-organizing algorithms, autonomous connection mechanisms, and distributed coordination systems. Success would enable robots to be deployed as components and assemble themselves on-site into whatever configuration is needed for the task at hand.
