Resolve Speciation Mechanisms
New species continue to form, yet we cannot predict when or how speciation occurs, limiting our understanding of biodiversity generation. This challenge requires understanding the complete process of how one species splits into two or more species. Barriers include reproductive isolation mechanisms, geographic vs. ecological factors, genetic architecture of speciation, and timescale integration. Without understanding speciation, biodiversity conservation will lack theoretical foundation, species concepts will remain confused, and evolutionary processes will be incomplete. Success could predict speciation events, improve species conservation, understand biodiversity generation, and resolve species concepts while advancing speciation research and conservation biology.
