Understand Immunological Aging
Immune systems decline with age, making elderly people vulnerable to infections, cancer, and poor vaccine responses, yet we don't understand aging's effects on immunity or how to reverse them. This challenge involves understanding how aging affects immune function and developing interventions to restore youthful immune responses. Barriers include aging complexity, immune system changes identification, intervention development, and clinical translation challenges. Without understanding immunological aging, elderly populations will remain vulnerable to diseases, vaccines will be less effective, and age-related immune decline will limit healthspan. Success could restore youthful immune function, improve vaccine responses in elderly, reduce infectious disease susceptibility, and extend healthy immune function while improving quality of life for aging populations.
