Understand Cross-Species Immune Protection

Zoonotic diseases jump from animals to humans, yet we don't understand how to develop immune protection against unknown future zoonotic threats. This challenge involves creating broad-spectrum immune protection against potential zoonotic pathogens. Barriers include pathogen diversity, cross-species immunity mechanisms, prediction of zoonotic threats, and broad-spectrum vaccine development. Without cross-species immune protection, future pandemics will continue occurring, zoonotic disease surveillance will be inadequate, and immune preparedness will be reactive rather than proactive. Success could prevent future pandemics, provide broad protection against zoonotic diseases, enable proactive immune preparedness, and create universal pathogen defense while protecting against emerging infectious threats.
