Create Science-Based Methods for Happiness
Despite unprecedented wealth and technology, happiness and life satisfaction have stagnated or declined in many developed nations, while depression and anxiety rates continue rising. Current approaches to increasing happiness rely on folk wisdom rather than scientific understanding. This challenge requires understanding what reliably increases human wellbeing, why material progress hasn't improved happiness, and how to design lives and societies that maximize flourishing. Barriers include the adaptation to positive changes, cultural differences in happiness concepts, measurement challenges, and the complexity of subjective wellbeing. Without science-based approaches, people will continue pursuing ineffective strategies for happiness, mental health crises will worsen, and societies will optimize for metrics that don't improve lives. Success could guide personal and policy decisions toward genuine wellbeing, reduce mental health problems, create more fulfilling lives, and design societies optimized for human flourishing.
