Solve the Psychology of Climate Change Denial
Despite overwhelming scientific evidence, many people deny or minimize climate change, preventing necessary collective action to address the global crisis. Traditional approaches focus on providing more information rather than addressing psychological barriers to acceptance. This challenge requires understanding why people reject scientific consensus on climate change and developing methods to overcome psychological resistance to inconvenient truths. Barriers include motivated reasoning, system justification, psychological distance, solution aversion, and ideological worldviews. Without addressing denial, climate action will remain insufficient, global cooperation will fail, and humanity will face catastrophic consequences from climate change. Success could enable widespread acceptance of climate science, motivate behavior change and policy support, facilitate global cooperation on climate action, and help humanity address its greatest existential challenge.
