Create Universal System Modeling Language for All Domains
Different engineering domains use incompatible modeling languages and tools that prevent collaboration and knowledge sharing across disciplines, yet creating a universal modeling language that works for all system types remains unsolved. Current modeling approaches are domain-specific and cannot represent the cross-domain interactions that characterize modern complex systems. The challenge requires developing modeling languages that can represent any type of system accurately, enable collaboration between different engineering disciplines, translate between existing modeling approaches, and scale from simple to extremely complex systems. Key barriers include the diversity of system types, entrenched modeling traditions, tool compatibility issues, and the difficulty of creating universal representations without losing domain-specific detail. Without universal modeling capabilities, interdisciplinary system development will continue being hampered by communication barriers and incompatible tools. Success would enable seamless collaboration across all engineering disciplines, accelerating innovation in complex systems.
