Design Self-Repairing Distributed Systems That Fix Architecture Problems
Distributed system architectures can develop problems over time - performance bottlenecks, single points of failure, inefficient communication patterns - yet creating systems that can identify and fix their own architectural problems remains largely theoretical. Current approaches require human architects to identify and fix architectural issues. The challenge requires developing systems that can analyze their own architecture continuously, identify architectural problems and inefficiencies, and automatically restructure themselves to fix architectural issues without service disruption. Technical barriers include architectural analysis complexity, safe automatic restructuring mechanisms, ensuring architectural changes don't introduce new problems, and coordinating architectural changes across distributed components. Without self-repairing architectural capabilities, distributed systems will continue degrading over time as architectural problems accumulate, requiring expensive human intervention to maintain optimal architecture. Success would create distributed systems that maintain optimal architecture automatically by continuously identifying and fixing their own architectural problems.
