Eliminate All Side-Channel Attacks Through Perfect Implementation
Cryptographic algorithms may be mathematically secure but implementations often leak information through side channels like timing, power consumption, or electromagnetic emissions, yet creating implementations that eliminate all possible side-channel information leakage remains extremely difficult. Current approaches reduce side-channel leakage but cannot eliminate it completely across all possible side channels. The challenge requires developing cryptographic implementations that provide zero information leakage through any possible side channel, maintain perfect security even when attackers can observe implementation behavior, and ensure side-channel resistance doesn't compromise cryptographic performance. Technical barriers include the diversity of possible side channels, ensuring side-channel protection works across all hardware platforms, maintaining performance while eliminating information leakage, and protecting against side-channel attacks that haven't been discovered yet. Without perfect side-channel resistance, cryptographic systems will remain vulnerable to attacks that exploit implementation characteristics rather than mathematical weaknesses. Success would enable cryptographic implementations that provide security equivalent to their mathematical properties, eliminating the gap between theoretical and practical cryptographic security.
