Vulnerability of Blockchain Cryptography to Quantum Computing
The current elliptic curve cryptography (ECC) used in Bitcoin, Ethereum, and other blockchains is vulnerable to being broken by quantum computers. The existing consensus was that a very powerful quantum machine was required to break ECC, but new estimates suggest that significantly fewer qubits are needed. This poses a real problem for the security of these blockchains.
